Meet Julien!
Julien Alarie (he/they) is a queer and trans-identified Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, practicing in North Carolina. Julien earned their M.S. in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from UNC Chapel Hill, and brings warmth, authenticity, and over seven years of experience working alongside LGBTQIA+ clients and communities.
Julien works with individuals ages 13 and up, and specializes in supporting folks navigating gender identity, sexuality, neurodivergent experiences (ASD/ADHD), relational dynamics (including polyamory and ethical non-monogamy), and major life or career transitions. They also bring over four years of clinical experience supporting relationships and partnerships of all kinds—working collaboratively with clients to foster growth, connection, and self-understanding.
Julien’s approach is relational, trauma-informed, and deeply affirming. They prioritize intersectionality in every session—recognizing that each person’s story is shaped by the unique constellation of identities they hold. Whether a client is exploring transition, questioning identity, navigating relationship shifts, or healing from past experiences, Julien works to create a space where they feel truly seen and supported. Their clinical style blends modalities such as Emotion-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed practices, and they’ve completed advanced post-graduate training in Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy, including an EFT Externship in 2022.
Clients often describe Julien as an engaged and nonjudgmental presence—someone who brings both heart and skill to the therapy room. They believe in walking alongside clients as a trusted guide, celebrating each person’s agency and self-determination while offering support that is grounded, evidence-based, and attuned to nuance.
Julien is an active member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), the Society for Sexual, Affectional, Intersex, and Gender-Expansive Identities (SAIGE), and the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (ARCA). They are especially passionate about serving queer, trans, and non-binary individuals, and bring cultural humility and deep respect into every client relationship.
