Meet Jessie!
Jessie Roney (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor based in North Carolina with over six years of experience supporting individuals and families in both school and clinical settings. She holds a Master’s in School Counseling and a Bachelor’s in Psychology—both from UNC Chapel Hill—and brings a deeply affirming, inclusive, and collaborative energy to her work with clients.

Jessie is especially passionate about advocating for safe, equitable, and LGBTQIA+-inclusive spaces across education and healthcare systems. She brings not only clinical expertise, but also lived experience—identifying on the asexual spectrum, as a proudly “elder-emo” queer millennial, within non-traditional relationship structures, and attuned to neurodivergent thinking and communication. These personal lenses help her meet clients with genuine understanding and cultural humility.

Her clients tend to be adolescent or adult neurodiverse or neurocurious folks exploring their identities across gender and sexuality spectrums, including the asexuality spectrum. Many are navigating anxiety, recovery from "people pleasing" and perfectionism, emotional dysregulation, burnout, relationship tension, or the weight of simply existing in an ableist, capitalist world. Jessie also supports clients who are interested in deconstructing dominant social narratives and rebuilding their lives around more authentic, values-aligned truths.

Jessie’s therapy room is a space where awkwardness is welcome, and perfection isn’t expected. She believes therapy can (and should!) be real, collaborative, and sometimes even a little messy. With Jessie, there’s no “expert on a pedestal”—just two people doing honest work together. Her approach is transparent and goal-focused, making her a great fit for clients who want to take an active role in shaping their own healing and growth.

Jessie draws from a range of evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Her therapeutic toolbox is ever-expanding, thanks to a deep enthusiasm for ongoing learning—especially when it comes to biopsychosocial, equity-centered, intersectional, and trauma-informed practices.

Above all, Jessie is committed to helping each client access a state of being that feels honest, grounded, and true to who they are and who they’re becoming.

Fun Facts
In her rare moments of free time, Jessie is likely surrounded by one or more of her cats, dancing around her house, headphones on - listening to music while willing the laundry pile to magically get smaller. Outside of the introvert safe space you can often find Jessie sharing about her latest research rabbit-hole, playing a new board game with friends, jumping around at a concert, or exploring all of the used book stores in a new city.
