Meet Jessie

Jessie Roney (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Education in School Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jessie brings over 6 years of experience supporting individuals and families across school and clinical settings. Jessie is passionate about advocacy for LGBTQIA+ inclusive and equitable safe spaces in educational and healthcare settings, and committed to improving outcomes for LGBTQIA+ persons, their caregivers, and their loved ones. Jessie personally identifies on the asexual spectrum, as an “elder-emo” queer millennial, within non-traditional relationship structures, and is personally and professionally attuned to neurodivergent thinking/communication patterns.

Jessie’s ideal clients are often neurodiverse or neurocurious, exploring or affirming their identity within or outside of the gender and sexuality spectrums, and committed to better aligning their actions, goals, and values. Clients that gravitate towards Jessie are often navigating anxiety, burnout, compassion fatigue, emotional lability, familial or relationship discord, impulse control challenges, or general life stressors resulting from living in an ableist capitalistic society. Jessie’s ideal clients may also be curious about or engaging in work towards deconstructing normative narratives. It is Jessie’s goal to help others access a state of being that feels the most truthful and authentic to their desired self.

Jessie’s philosophy is that it’s okay for therapy to be authentic and even awkward! With Jessie, there’s no reserved seat for an expert, only real people doing real work. Jessie’s approach is transparent, goal-focused, and is often best suited for individuals who are looking to take an active part in constructing their therapy goals. There is no one-size-fits-all human experience, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Jessie utilizes a variety of evidence-based modalities tailored to the individual including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Solutions-Focused Therapy. Jessie is enthusiastic about pursuing continuing education and is constantly learning the latest biopsychosocial, equity-focused, and trauma-informed counseling practices.

Fun Facts

In her rare moments of free time, Jessie is likely surrounded by one or more of her cats, dancing around her house, headphones on - listening to music while willing the laundry pile to magically get smaller. Outside of the introvert safe space you can often find Jessie sharing about her latest research rabbit-hole, playing a new board game with friends, jumping around at a concert, or exploring all of the used book stores in a new city.
